AASC is committed to listening with an open heart and mind so that we may continue to integrate inclusive practices in our professional and personal developments as a collective and as single beings. We understand that our growth as individuals contribute to the collective community and that we are always learning and discovering more ways to ensure that all people feel welcome as extensions of their race, gender, sexuality, ability-diverse, and backgrounds. In relation to hxstory, we are aware of the atrocities from which this country is built and sustained on the backs of those who were violently forced into labor, genocide of natives, drug wars, incarceration, deportation of bodies, language hierarchy, and contemporary socioeconomic inequity. As a group of diverse staff who understand the conflicted nature of functioning within UCSB, we hold ourselves accountable to preventing the perpetuation of white supremacy, heteropatriarchy and colonization by sustaining awareness of how these giants affect our words, actions and interactions with others. Through educational workshops, wellness meetings, and fostering a work-life balance that prioritizes self-care and sustainability, we hope to uplift our values and spread compassion to all.

Thank you to Aimee Hanna and Christine Fritsch for graciously and thoughtfully working to put into words what we feel in our hearts and minds, for weaving it all together in a cohesive collaboration with the departments we serve, and for providing endless support as we continue to strive.
